Heal The Earth is a nonprofit on a mission to change how the local food system works, putting farmers, food workers, and community members first. Rooted in Bonsall, building for San Diego County and beyond.
Our Mission
To change the local food system to put farmers, ranchers, fisherfolk, food workers, and community members first.
To support those stakeholders by building out a local supply chain that will launch, support, grow, and accelerate food-related businesses in communities that traditionally lack access to funding, expertise, and opportunity — so as to build community equity and generational wealth.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social enterprise operating out of Bonsall, California. The programs we build are designed to generate real, lasting revenue for the farmers and communities they serve — not rely on grant cycles that run out or goodwill that fades. Adopt A Farm is the first of those programs. It won't be the last.
What We're Building

Every program Heal The Earth runs is designed to generate real revenue for the farmers and communities we serve, rather than relying on donations that run out. These are the programs either live or in development.
Adopt A Farmer
A direct-to-consumer program connecting community members to local farms. Adopters fund a farmer's season upfront, receive fresh produce at harvest, and build a real relationship with the land and the people who tend it. Currently live with Wild Acres Farm in Bonsall and Fortule Farms in Escondido, and expanding.
Farm Stop Store
A physical and online storefront where consumers can buy directly from multiple San Diego County farmers in one place, bypassing grocery chains and returning more value to the grower. Modeled on the UK's successful Farm Stop concept, adapted for the San Diego region.
Food Truck
A mobile food business featuring produce sourced exclusively from Heal The Earth partner farms, taking farm-direct food directly into the communities we serve. The food truck also serves as a workforce training vehicle, bringing in people from underserved communities and giving them hands-on experience in the food service industry.
The County We're Building For
San Diego has 4,500 farms.
Most people don't know a single one.
San Diego County is one of the most agriculturally rich counties in the United States. More small farms than almost anywhere else in the country: 4,500 of them, 94% family-owned, most under ten acres. The county produces $1.66 billion in agricultural value every year.
And yet most San Diegans have never met a farmer. Never visited a grove. Never eaten a piece of fruit that came directly from within the county they live in. The system was built to make that invisible, and invisible things are easy to let disappear.
San Diego has lost more than half its avocado acreage in the last thirty years. Water costs, corporate competition, wildfires, and a distribution system that squeezes margins until farms become unsustainable. This is the problem Heal The Earth exists to solve.
Standing on Good Shoulders
Inspired by a model that
proved it could work.
The Adopt A Farmer program was inspired by Naranjas del Carmen, a Spanish cooperative based in Valencia that pioneered the direct farm adoption model in Europe. Their approach is simple: community members adopt a tree, fund its season upfront, and receive the harvest directly. The farmer gets financial support before the season begins, and the adopter gets a genuine connection to the land and the person growing their food. The model has worked in Spain for years, and the farms in it are still standing.
We saw in it exactly what San Diego County's farmers need: a way to receive direct support from the communities around them, without a distributor or grocery chain in between. Adopt A Farmer is our version of that model, built for this place.

Our Home
Rooted in Bonsall.
Heal The Earth operates out of Wild Acres Farm in Bonsall, California, a certified organic avocado operation tucked into the hills of San Diego County's North County interior. Wild Acres is our flagship program partner, the physical home of our organization, and the gathering place for our growing community of adopters.
Wild Acres Farm grows Hass, Reed, Gem, and Fuerte avocados across a certified organic grove. The 2026 season sold out completely. The 2027 season is open now, with harvest running December 2026 through June 2027.
When you adopt from Wild Acres Farm, you're supporting the infrastructure that makes every program Heal The Earth runs possible. The farm's success is the organization's success.
