Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know.
You're buying a direct connection to a working farm in San Diego County. Your adoption is a one-year commitment to support a real farmer. Your dollars go directly to the grower before the season begins, when they need it most.
Your adoption includes a personalized adoption certificate, an open invitation to visit the farm, regular season updates from the grower, fresh produce delivered direct from the farm at harvest time, and the knowledge that your contribution went directly to the farmer, not a supply chain. Shipping is always included, with no hidden fees.
Your adoption lasts one full year from the date of purchase. From that day, you are an active supporter of your chosen farm. You'll receive updates, invitations, and produce deliveries throughout that year. At the end of the year, you'll have the option to renew and continue supporting the farm for another season.
Absolutely. You can adopt as many farms as you like, and at different levels. If you want avocados from Wild Acres Farm in Bonsall and dragon fruit from Fortule Farms in Escondido, you can hold both adoptions simultaneously. Each runs for one year from its own date of purchase.
It's one of the most meaningful ones we know of. An Adopt A Farmer adoption gives someone a year-long connection to a working farm: a certificate in their name, farm events to look forward to, fresh produce from the land they're supporting, and the knowledge that their gift went directly to a farmer who needed it. It works well for birthdays, holidays, housewarmings, or anyone who cares about food and where it comes from.
As your adoption year approaches its end, we'll reach out with the option to renew. Renewing continues your support into the next growing season and keeps your relationship with the farm going. There is no automatic renewal. The choice is always yours.
You're eligible to place produce orders at any point during the harvest season of the farm you've adopted. Each farm has its own season. Wild Acres Farm's avocado harvest runs December through June, while Fortule Farms' dragon fruit season runs June through November. You choose when within that window you'd like your deliveries, making it easy to schedule around your life.
You'll receive an update from the farm before your harvest window opens so you know exactly when to expect your produce to be available.
Your produce always comes from the farm you adopted, grown under the same practices and care that made you choose it. It is farm-direct and fresh. However, we cannot guarantee that every item in your box came from your adopted tree or dragon fruit vine. What you receive depends on the seasonality of the crop, the natural yield of the land at the time of your order, and conditions that are simply part of real farming: weather, water, and factors beyond any grower's control.
The amount varies by farm and by adoption level. Each farm lists the details of what's included at each tier. We encourage you to explore the farm you're supporting to find the level that fits your household. The details are clearly listed on each farm's adoption page before you commit.
Yes. Once your produce is packed and shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking number from our carrier. You can use it to follow your shipment from the farm to your front door.
Shipping is always included in the price of your adoption. There are no added fees at checkout and no surprise charges when your produce ships. The price you see is the price you pay.
No. The adoption price covers your certificate, farm access, season updates, produce, and shipping. There is nothing else to pay. We believe in transparency. You should know exactly what you're committing to before you do.
Yes. Heal The Earth is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 86-2651474), so a portion of your adoption is tax deductible. The deductible amount is calculated by subtracting the fair market value of the produce and shipping from your total adoption price.
We'll provide a receipt indicating the portion of your contribution that qualifies as a charitable deduction. We recommend consulting your tax advisor for guidance specific to your situation.
Heal The Earth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Bonsall, California, on a mission to change how the local food system works, putting farmers, food workers, and community members first. Adopt A Farmer is one of our core programs, and it is how we generate direct economic support for local, independent farms while giving communities a real stake in where their food comes from.
Your adoption supports the farmer you chose, the program that connects them to people like you, and the broader mission of building a food system in San Diego County that's worth passing on. Learn more at HealTheEarth.info.
After your adoption is confirmed, you'll receive a personalized link to a digital Certificate of Adoption in several shareable formats. It's designed so you can post it to social media, add it to your email signature, or print it as a keepsake. Your certificate is documentation of your commitment to the farm and your contribution to San Diego County agriculture.
Events happen periodically at the farm you adopted, and you'll be invited when they do. The format varies by farm — some hold open days during the growing season where you can walk the land, meet the farmer, and see your adoption in person. Others may not have the infrastructure to host regular on-site events, in which case we'll arrange a meet and greet with your farmer at Wild Acres Farm in Bonsall, the home of Heal The Earth.
Keep an eye on your season updates for event announcements, or reach out to us at info@healtheearth.info if you have questions about what's coming up for your farm.
Yes. Farm events are meant to be shared. Bring your family, neighbors, or anyone who'd enjoy seeing where their food comes from. We just ask that you let us know in advance so the farm team can be ready to welcome everyone properly. Reach out to info@healtheearth.info to coordinate.
